Lesser Pentagram Ritual

At the most topical level, the various Lesser Pentagram practices of Western Magic are rituals of orientation. Through the magical imprinting of divine names and pentagrams into the quadrants of the astral sphere, the initiate orients their  ‘sense of Self’ to the center of the six-pointed dimensional universe. Over time, and through consistent practice, the pentagrams and divine names will become permanent extensions of your astral aura and be the consecrated “walls” of your vessel for vertical and spiritual ascension.

This practice places the initiate at the intersection of the lower six dimensional sefirot within the Kabbalistic cube (see also Sealing the Six-Dimensions of Space). The directional correspondences vary depending on the version of the Sefer Yetzirah, below is a table for comparison.

Whether the ritual is performed physically or in the astral, and whether the divine names are vibrated out loud or silently and in the “great voice”, the names and pentagrams themselves must carry forth to the very limits of the universe. The pentagrams are to be drawn in pure light, that is the light brought down from Keter ; they will assume the color corresponding to the Sefirah of the cardinal point you are facing.

The pentagram traced is that of Banishing Earth, since each pentagram is directed to a cardinal principle of the terrestrial ‘kingdom’ (Malkut). Earth is to be understood as the mixture of all the elements as present in Malkut. The banishing serves to silence the 5 external senses from perceiving the veil of physical dimensionality. With the completion, the initiate breaks through the confines of physical illusion and stands as the universal Center before the transcendent principles of directionality and polarity in their angelic manifestations.

I do not practice forced visualization, but I am not against it. I believe when properly done in alignment to the transcendent principles of the operation, such visualization can be a very useful tool for packaging the complex symbolism. However, there are far too many practitioners who get overly preoccupied with the visualizations and lose focus of the metaphysical principles behind the practice. For them the experience becomes a sentimental, cerebral, and subconscious fantasy instead of the gateway into the super-conscious and transcendent source that it is intended to be.

Those who regard this ritual as a mere device to invoke or banish spirits, are unworthy to posses it. Properly understood, it is the Medicine of the Metals and the Stone of the Wise.
